Small Business Server 2003. Microsoft BackOffice is
the name that Microsoft gives to its range of server (back office)
products. This originally included Microsoft Windows NT Server,
Microsoft Windows SQL Server, Microsoft Windows Proxy Server,
Microsoft Windows Exchange Server and a bunch of connectivity
products. These products were immediately popular with larger
companies but represented a huge investment for smaller companies.
The orgininal Small Business Server product was actually called
Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server as this remained
the case up to Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5.
In the year 2000 with the released of the third version, Microsoft
changed the name simply to Microsoft Small Business Server
2000. The product now serves networks of up to 50 users and
includes fully functional versions of Microsoft Windows 2000
Server (formerly NT Server), Microsoft Windows Proxy Server
(now called Internet Accelorator), Microsoft Windows SQL Server,
Microsoft Windows Exchange Server and a fax server (not available
from Microsoft in the BackOffice range targetted at larger
enterprises).
